On 4 February 2009, Origin and Austevoll Seafoods ASA ('Austevoll') announced that they had reached agreement to combine their respective Irish, UK and Norwegian fishmeal and fish oil operations, operating as Welcon Invest AS (‘Welcon’).

Welcon is Europe’s premier manufacturer of fishmeal and fish oil with operations in Ireland, the UK and Norway. Welcon is owned 50 per cent by Origin and 50 per cent by Austevoll.

Fishmeal and fish oil are key raw material ingredients of fish feed. Fishmeal is a valuable, internationally traded protein used mostly in diets for farmed fish and pig and poultry diets.
